Why Art Students Should Take Up Blog Writing

By Katie Onson

Art, as many will be able to tell you, is the type of field that encompasses a number of mediums. Amongst them is writing, which can be as powerful as those involved in it would like. Of course, the same be said about blogging, even though many others utilize it for the purpose of releasing their thoughts in an almost therapeutic way. However, you may ask the question: what are the benefits of blogging for those who consider themselves art students?

Before anything else, it's important to keep in mind that blogging has a number of different forms it can take up. Blogs exist for a number of subjects, ranging from social media to food, which goes to show that there isn't a topic that blogging doesn't cover. What this means is that, regardless of your interests, you can get involved in this. Of course, it may not be enough to simply write about the material you like in order to bring readers to you.

I believe it's important to touch upon awareness as well. More specifically, you want to be able to invest in websites which have different levels of reach, which is one of the reasons why I believe Tumblr to be such a popular entity. This microblogging social network of sort is one that has a wide audience to consider and it is one that can be reached through the utilization of hashtags. Much like Twitter, these particular hashtags are ones which are able to make posts on Tumblr easier to search.

For others, blogging serves as a journal of sorts for any kind of day. Maybe you had just returned from a baseball game and you'd like to talk about how you felt your team did not have their best go. Perhaps you ran into an old friend at a coffee shop and you'd like to record your thoughts in your blog while they're still fresh in your mind. To put it simply, blogging is meant for a number of purposes and personal satisfaction should go overlooked.

As you can see, blogging is a great tool for those who consider themselves writers or just artists in general. It's not like you have to be a total wordsmith or grammatical expert in order to get involved in this, either. All you need is the right platform, for your thoughts to be conveyed, in addition to the thoughts you'd like to put down into words. Once you have these, as far as blogging is concerned, you will be good to go.
