By Edna Booker

A crime is one of the common social problems that have been subjected to much explanation. After a crime has been committed the process of getting to know the perpetrators of the crime, the victim among other crucial information involves a lot of CID method. Sometimes these methods bear fruits and the suspect is arrested, charged and convicted, but some criminals are very smart in masking their crimes, making it hard for investigators to unravel the details of the crime.

Every crime investigation method starts with looking at the crime scene which is the physical location where it the alleged violation of ones right by another took place. The crime scene is thoroughly checked for any inconsistencies, items that are out of ordinary, or would not necessarily be at the location that time are noted and collected as evidence.

Extra care is needed when handling a crime scene, hence different modes of clothing such as gloves, are worn by investigators in a crime scene. The reason behind this is to prevent contamination of crime scenes by the introduction or removal of any items that may hinder the reconstruction of such a crime. One of the most commonly used investigation method is the interview. Interviews are, however guided by numerous rules to prevent their abuse by the investigators. However, these rules differ from one jurisdiction to another, but they are all geared toward ensuring that the evidence collected is admissible in a court of law.

Interviews are the most commonly used investigating methods. Different jurisdictions have different rules pertaining to how the interview should be conducted. These rules ensure the admissibility of evidence collected as even though the facts may show somebody committed a crime that law may find them innocent if the rules of evidence collection were never followed.

There are simple as well as advanced techniques. The simple interview method involves the normal question by the investigators to collect new facts about a crime or to confirm the information they already have. There are few rules governing simple interview such as the need for investigators to avoid open-ended questions and informing the interviewer about their rights. However, advanced or complex methods involve the use of technology and experts to get information from the suspect or witness of a crime. Some of these methods include hypnosis and cognitive interview. Though these methods are relatively new there are so many controversies surrounding their effectiveness.

The other method is the use of undercover investigators. These are the detectives who take up roles as a different person in order to collect information to be used in the court of law. Even though this is one of the most effective methods professionals detectives are needed to ensure that all rules are followed to ensure admissibility of evidence.

The other method is the use of surveillance technique. This method involves investigators having on the lookout as suspects plan, execute or even exit after committing a crime. Mostly this method is useful when information linking suspects of a crime is missing, hence the investigators need evidence to hold these people culpable in a court of law.

Lastly, the type of method to be used is determined by the type of investigation, for example, criminal or non-criminal, the use of information obtained. There are many methods that can be used depending on the complexity of investigation. However, some methods such as interview hardly miss in an investigation process.
